When most people think of The University of Phoenix, they immediately think of an online college. Many do not realize that the University of Phoenix also offers real campus locations too. I actually obtained my Bachelors Degree attending the University of Phoenix at Dallas and thought it my experiences may be helpful to others.
I was among the very first students at UOP in Dallas. In the beginning, we actually met for classes utilizing the meeting rooms of a local hotel. Many of the professors in the first few classes flew in from UOP campuses located in other cities. Overall, it was exciting to be part of something new.
Since I had already received my two year Associates degree many years before, I was able to complete my 4 year degree in just less than 2 years while maintaining my full time career. This was one of the biggest deciding factors in my decision to choose the University of Phoenix. It was a short term goal that motivated me to complete the task.
The other factor that helped me choose The University of Phoenix was their financial aid department. Most of my classmates were getting tuition reimbursement from their employers as long as they maintained a high enough GPA. I did not have that benefit. I was going to have to pay the full load myself. And if you have checked into the tuition at UOP or other similar colleges, it is not a small matter. However, their financial aid department was very helpful in the process of securing the student loans I needed.
One of the best parts of the University of Phoenix teaching styles and programs is the learning team concept. Even though it was frustrating sometime having my grade depending upon the actions of others, it also helped to motivate me to do a good job because my teammates grade depended partially on my actions too. Looking back on the experience, it really does emulate the real-world work environment in many ways. It is rare that work projects are accomplished alone. It almost always takes a team of employees from various departments working together to complete a project.
Eventually, the permanent location for the University was completed. It was 3 or 4 floors of a very nice office building. The classrooms were nice and made the experience feel a little more like a real college than meeting at the hotel.
All in all, the University of Phoenix provided me a quick and affordable way to finally finish my degree.
